“DOLCE, DOLCE, DOLCE” – 1960 Fellini Movie

SUJECT: SHAG was inspired by the 1960-s classic Italian film “La Dolce Vita” directed and co-written by Federico Fellini (1920 – 1993), with the protagonists Marcello Mastroianni (plays Marcello Rubini, tabloid journalist) and Anita Eckberg (plays Silvia, a American Swedish exuberant film star. It won Oscar and Palme d’Or awards! Fellini’s best-known films include Amarcord, Satyricon and Casanova. Contemporary filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Pedro Almodóvar and Tim Burton have cited Fellini’s influence on their work.

The night-club scene portrayed here, set in the Baths of Caracalla, where the infatuated Marcello dances with Sylvia who dances frenetically to the “Ready Teddy” Little Richard song the performed by Adriano Celentano, the Italian “Elvis”. Sylvia’s natural sensuality triggers raucous partying while Robert (played by Lex Barker), her bored fiancé, draws caricatures and reads a newspaper. Silvia abruptly leaves the club with Marcello, in his car.

They spend the rest of the evening in the alleys of Rome, where they wade into the TREVI Fountain, where they almost kissed. Like a magic spell that has suddenly been broken, dawn arrives at the very moment Sylvia playfully “anoints” Marcello’s head with fountain water. They drive back to Sylvia’s hotel to find an enraged Robert waiting for her in his car. Robert slaps Sylvia in front of paparazzies, and orders her to go to bed, and then assaults Marcello, who takes it in stride…got to watch the movie!

The artist effortlessly captures all the comedy and drama of Rome in the 1960s with Dolce, Dolce, Dolce. Drawing on inspiration from the work of Federico Fellini, this fine art print will make you feel as if you splashed in Trevi Fountain with the romance contained in a monochromatic memory.

DESCRIPTION: SHAG’s limited editions introduced in Budapest are produced using the silk-screen (serigraph) printing method. Serigraphy for additional color depth, saturation, density, and texture are a perfect match to SHAG’s painting style.

He is collaborating with Kolibri Art Studio atelier in Los Angeles for decades for unparalleled quality at enormous sizes for always a small, limited edition of 200 serigraphs only. Anywhere from 10 to 25 colors (some colors are printed twice for optimum quality) with hand color-separation, required 2 months to print since it is very labor-intensive to complete these unique editions. His media choice is always the US-made, 100% rag 2 or 4-ply “Rising Museum Board” brand, acid-free, thick archival paper, only with 5cm margins left outside the live area. For the finish, SHAG requires a very expensive UV matte clear coat application made for silk-screen printing for preserving the extra longevity of the serigraph print.

FRAMING INFORMATION: Custom made 4cm wide red lacquer wood frame with chrome sides, enhanced with 1 cm wide grey wood fillet. Covered with 2mm artist-glass for longevity.
