Shag – “THE HARMONIC PERSPECTIVE” – The famed architect, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home “Taliesin West” 1937

This fenomenal serigraph was produced in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. “THE HARMONIC PERSPECTIVE” is SHAG’s tribute to one of the world’s most famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.

It depicts the garden room of Wright’s winter home and studio (Taliesin West) in Scottsdale, Arizona, built in 1937 and, renovated in 2021. This phenomenal space was the living room of Frank Lloyd Wright and his wife Olgivanna, where they entertained friends, guests and apprentices. The guest list included some of the best-known practitioners in their fields, including poet Carl Sandburg, writer Somerset Maugham, playwright Eugene O’Neill, painter Georgia O’Keeffe, critic Lewis Mumford, landscape architect Jens Jenson, cellist Pablo Casals, composer Igor Stravinsky and film director Sergei Eisenstein. Here are a few words from Shag: on the inspiration for “THE HARMONIC PERSPECTIVE”: “I decided to depict the Garden Room after learning that Frank Lloyd Wright held salon-style gatherings and music listening evenings there. As a space, it incorporates the design philosophy and materials of Taliesin West. The first time I visited, I was impressed by the sloping ceilings with horizontal lines, the unique stone and woodwork, and the unusual window arrangement. The room is a visual feast fit for a fine art serigraph.”

This 2022 limited edition number (200) is almost sold out in the USA. This S.P. (Studio Proof 24/25) is an artist edition from SHAG personal archive, therefore it is more valuable. THE PROCESS OF CREATION: SHAG’s limited editions introduced in Budapest are produced using the silk-screen (serigraph) printing method. Serigraphy for additional color depth, saturation, density, and texture are a perfect match to SHAG’s painting style.

He is collaborating with Kolibri Art Studio atelier in Los Angeles for decades for unparalleled quality at enormous sizes for always a small, limited edition of 200 serigraphs only. Anywhere from 10 to 25 colors (some colors are printed twice for optimum quality) with hand color-separation, required 2 months to print since it is very labor-intensive to complete these unique editions. His media choice is always the US-made, 100% rag 2 or 4-ply “Rising Museum Board” brand, acid-free, thick archival paper, only with 5cm margins left outside the live area.

For the finish, SHAG requires a very expensive UV matte clear coat application for image only, made by silk-screen over print for preserving the extra longevity of the serigraph print.

FRAMING INFORMATION: Custom made 4cm wide, white Italian lacquered wood frame, with 2cm wide bronze colored inner frame. This framed serigraph comes without glass, which is not necessarily due to the size and the serigraph nature since already a UV satin varnish was already applied for longevity. At this stage, the display is approved by the artist.

If requested, we can place a 2mm art-glass to cover the image. For additional fee, a non-reflective UltraVue® UV70 Museum-Glass https://tru-vue.com/solution/ultravue-uv70-glass/ can be added.
