Shag “SUMMER OF ’76” • Punk-Rock group Ramones in NYC (57cm x 100cm)

In 1980 SHAG saw the Ramones play live in Hollywood and wondered at the time how they had managed to stay together so long… This American punk-rock band formed in 1974 in New York. They performed 2,263 concerts, touring virtually nonstop for 22 years.

Of course, the stars of this particular serigraph (released in 2015) are the Ramones and the CBGB club in New York City. However, we’re not sure if there were so many posters on the wall of the club back in 1976! Either way, it’s an iconic band in a cool club setting. The famous club opened in 1973 in lower Manhattan in NY. The CBGB (Country, BlueGrass & Blues) club was originally intended to feature its namesake musical styles but became a forum for American punk and new wave bands like the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Misfits, Patti Smith Group, The Dead Boys, The Dictators, Murphy’s Law, Sick of It All, and The Cramps. In the 1990s, CBGB became closely associated with Guns n Roses with GnR’s Duff McKagan (whom I personally know), acting as an ambassador of the CBGB attitude worldwide.

The “SUMMER OF ’76 – Punk-Rock Ramones in NYC” limited edition serigraph (only 150 created) is SOLD-OUT. We sincerely thank SHAG for hand-signing and numbering from his personal archive this Trial Proof (T/P 6/30) to his second gallery in Europe, in Budapest. This serigraph include the Certificate of Authenticity (C.O.A.) issued by the gallery.

DESCRIPTION:

SHAG’s limited editions introduced in Budapest are produced using the silk-screen (serigraph) printing method. Serigraphy for additional color depth, saturation, density, and texture are a perfect match to SHAG’s painting style.

He is collaborating with Kolibri Art Studio, Inc. in Los Angeles for decades for unparalleled quality at enormous sizes for always a small, around limited edition of 200 serigraphs. Anywhere from 10 to 25 colors (some colors are printed twice for optimum quality) with hand color-separation, required 2 months to print since it is very labor-intensive to complete these unique editions. His media choice is always the US-made, 100% rag 2 or 4-ply “Rising Museum Board” brand, acid-free, thick archival paper, only with 5cm margins left outside the live area. For the finish, SHAG requires a very expensive UV matte clear coat application made for silk-screen printing for preserving the extra longevity of the serigraph print.
