Shag “SPACE WIDOWS” • 1969 Moonwalk reactions (86cm x 109cm)

Walter Cronkite of CBS News anchored live coverage of the arrival of Apollo 11 to the moon on July 20, 1969, and the moonwalk of astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, the first to step on the lunar surface. All eyes were glued to Black & White and the odd Color Television. Most all men, boys, and some women stared fixated at the tiny screens of the day.The live broadcast included scenes from mission control in Houston and live pictures from the moon itself.

This, of course, created some “SPACE WIDOWS” that day for women whom would have rather been shopping (we know that wouldn’t have been the case today)! SHAG donated a portion of this edition to the COLUMBIA MEMORIAL SPACE CENTER in Downey, CA, USA for the celebration of the moonwalk’s 50th Anniversary by Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin on July 20th, 1969.

The “SPACE WIDOWS” serigraph limited edition (200 copies) is almost sold-out in the USA. We sincerely thank SHAG for hand-signing and numbering these PPs to his 2nd gallery in Europe, in Budapest. These P/P serigraphs include the Certificate of Authenticity issued by the gallery.

FRAMING INFORMATION:

RETRO-FRAME: Custom made 4cm wide black or optional dark-green wood frame, unmatted. This particular framed option comes without glass, which is not necessarily due to the size and the serigraph nature since already a UV satin varnish was already applied for longevity. At this stage, the display is approved by the artist.

DESCRIPTION:

SHAG’s limited editions introduced in Budapest are produced using the silk-screen (serigraph) printing method. Serigraphy for additional color depth, saturation, density, and texture are a perfect match to SHAG’s painting style.

He is collaborating with Kolibri Art Studio atelier in Los Angeles for decades for unparalleled quality at enormous sizes for always a small, limited edition of 200 serigraphs only. Anywhere from 10 to 25 colors (some colors are printed twice for optimum quality) with hand color-separation, required 2 months to print since it is very labor-intensive to complete these unique editions. He’s media choice is always the 100% rag 2 or 4-ply acid-free museum boards only with a 5cm margins left outside the live area. For the finish, SHAG requires a special and very costly UV matte clear coat (varnish) screened on for preserving the extra longevity of the serigraph print
