SHAG – „BENEDICT CANYON” – (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – Tarantino Movie)

Inspired by the Quentin Tarantino film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, SHAG shows the evening’s final moments of calm before the storm in Benedict Canyon and reminds us all why flamethrowers are best kept poolside.

In this new work entitled Benedict Canyon, SHAG recalls the events the Manson Family perpetrated at the end of the 60’s via the Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The two main characters are a down-and-out unemployed western movie star Rick (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stuntman Cliff (Brad Pitt), whose next-door neighbours are none other than Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate, played by Margot Robbie. Together, Rick and Cliff try to make it in the cruel world of Hollywood. It’s a cruel world because it’s changing: they’ve made their way in showbiz, but now, wherever they go, they find that everything has changed: the rules, the bosses and the women….

Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival received such a seven-minute ovation that the enthusiastic reception even brought tears to Brad Pitt’s eyes. Mega stars such as Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen also starred in the film.

If you haven’t seen the movie, we recommend you do. If you have, we’re sure you’ll recognize this scene and the characters that feature. With so many stars and their fans, the price of this print will increase quickly. SHAG just sent us this Studio Proof 16/25 serigraph from his personal archive to his 2nd gallery in Europe and includes the C.O.A. issued by our gallery.

DESCRIPTION: SHAG’s limited editions introduced in Budapest are produced using the silk-screen (serigraph) printing method. Serigraphy for additional color depth, saturation, density, and texture are a perfect match to SHAG’s painting style.

He is collaborating with Kolibri Art Studio atelier in Los Angeles for decades for unparalleled quality at enormous sizes for always a small, limited edition of 200 serigraphs only. Anywhere from 10 to 25 colors (some colors are printed twice for optimum quality) with hand color-separation, required 2 months to print since it is very labor-intensive to complete these unique editions. His media choice is always the US-made, 100% rag 2 or 4-ply “Rising Museum Board” brand, acid-free, thick archival paper, only with 5cm margins left outside the live area. For the finish, SHAG requires a very expensive UV matte clear coat application made for silk-screen printing for preserving the extra longevity of the serigraph print.

FRAMING INFORMATION: Custom made 4cm wide white lacquer wood frame with 2cm wide bronze wood fillet and covered with 2mm non-reflective UltraVue® UV70 Museum-Glass for archival longevity.
