SHAG here captures one of the most famous and iconic homes in Sin City in this vibrant fine-art piece.
This giclée is unique in that it evokes the 1995 film CASINO, directed by Martin Scorsese. If you’ve seen the film, you’ll recognise the iconic stars of this great film – Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone (Oscar winner) and Joe Pesci.
Located in the famous Paradise Palms neighborhood, this 1960s modern mansion was designed by the famous Krisel/Palmer architecture firm in 1964, originally commissioned by Sam “Ace” Rothstein. “Ace” (played by Robert De Niro) was a prominent casino owner, but also ran secret betting shops and was known to have strong ties to the Italian mafia in Chicago.
Satirically, a private double-winged plane with two FBI detectives on board watching “Ace’s” friend playing golf, a mafiosi heavyweight “Nick Santoro” (played by Joe Pesci), ironically runs out of fuel and crash-lands on the golf course. The detective’s goal in any circumstances is to finally catch Nick in the act of any illegal activity so they can arrest him and get closer to Sam “Ace” Rothstein’s unethical dealings.
This scene is played out in front of “Ace” in the film, as the golf course is adjacent to the swimming pool terrace of “Ace’s” pink villa. “Ace is negotiating with the Nevada state commissioners who control the casinos to license them to operate, and demonstrates how he is a law-abiding citizen. Well… that didn’t go well…
