1932 – The Saturday Evening Post magazine cover series, the original painting is oil on canvas. This painting features many of J.C. Leyendecker’s favorite themes: dogs, children, cherubic toddlers, and a touch of humor. The centerpiece is a strong-jawed, chiseled man as a lifeguard sitting in a high beach chair.
His work is frankly homoerotic: his glistering beefcake men, languid but elegant women, and sublimated sexual imagery seem quite evident today.
