Frank Salas “ILLUMINETED CARNEGIE HALL – NY”

Carnegie Hall, originally the Music Hall, was constructed between 1889 and 1891 as a venue shared by the Oratorio Society of New York and the New York Symphony Society. The hall was owned by the Carnegie family until 1925, after which Robert E. Simon and then his son, Robert E. Simon, Jr., became owner. From Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Mahler, and Bartók to George Gershwin, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Judy Garland, and The Beatles, an honor roll of music-making artists representing the finest of every genre has filled Carnegie Hall throughout the years.

Frank Salas, born Jesus Francisco Salas Prado in Mexico City in 1981, spent his early life in Guadalajara developing his passion for art through drawing. Beginning at the age of ten, he studied drawing, along with watercolor, acrylics and perspective at the Cabañas Cultural Institute. By 18, he was admitted into the Center of Art, Architecture and Design at the Universidad de Guadalajara. Franki supported himself while pursuing his degree in graphic communication design, working in local restaurants, as well as a tour guide and an illustrator. After receiving his degree, Señor Salas taught art to children, ages four through twelve, at Saint Johns Elementary School. All the while, Franki never stopped painting, creating scenographies, murals and signs for various educational institutes, as well as several commissioned portraits.

At age 28, Frank began teaching at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Unico campus, lecturing on illustration, design, human figure drawing, semiotics, and perception. Franki is currently taking a sabbatical to devote more time to his artwork. You will often find him painting in Southwest Florida, New York City and Upstate New York, producing the thought provoking works you will find on this site.
